Benedict Cumberbatch From Doctor Strange Wants To Work With Nick Fury Onscreen

According to Benedict Cumberbatch, he would want to see Doctor Strange and Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury appear together on screen in upcoming MCU productions.

Doctor Strange made his complete MCU debut in 2016's Doctor Strange, which followed the renowned neurosurgeon as he described and learned the Mystic Arts, after being namedropped in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Since then, Cumberbatch has played the role in other films, including Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Avengers: Infinity War, and Thor: Ragnarok (2022).

In three episodes of the animated What If...? series on Disney+, he also provided the character's alternate voices. Despite the character's heightened visibility inside the MCU, Cumberbatch and Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury have only ever appeared together in one scene: Tony Stark's funeral in Endgame.

Hawkman Promises That His New Superhero Team Will Offer A Fresh New Aspect In That Genre

In a recent interview with Oracle Time, the actor—who plays Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe—talked about his ideal scene partner. Without any hesitation, he said, "Samuel L. Jackson." I don't know anymore. I guess it depends on what timeline.

I regrettably didn't have much screen time with Scarlett Johansson and I'd love more with Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston. The thing is, I came to the party very late when Marvel was just celebrating the first decade with that incredible group shot in Endgame.

Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, who has been a character in the shared universe since 2008, played a smaller part in the third phase of the MCU. The former S.H.I.E.L.D. director will nonetheless star in the upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion and be a key player in the MCU's first crossover event since Endgame. The iconic comic book narrative of the same name, in which the Skrulls invaded Earth and surreptitiously took on the identities of numerous superheroes, will be adapted into the television show. Although Cumberbatch has not yet made an official return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans may anticipate seeing him as Doctor Strange in the forthcoming Avengers: Secret Wars movie. This is because the movie's end credits for Multiverse of Madness hinted of an imminent incursion event. The word "incursion," which refers to the impending collision of two worlds, originates from the Secret Wars comic book plot from 2015. Doctor Strange followed Clea (Charlize Theron), a fellow sorcerer, into the Dark Dimension at the end of the superhero movie from 2022 to assist her in stopping the upcoming invasion event.
