Director of Loki Season 1 Kate Herron Supposedly Tapped To Helm Star Wars: The Acolyte

According to a recent source, Loki director Kate Herron will be in charge of The Acolyte, the Star Wars mystery-thriller series that will be available on Disney+

According to sources close to the project, Lucasfilm approached Herron about directing the highly anticipated program in late 2021, according to The Bespin Bulletin. These sources are unsure if the director eventually agreed to work on the project, but some assume she did.

There's also considerable doubt over whether Herron will direct every episode of The Acolyte or delegate that task to others if she is genuinely dedicated to the project.

House Of The Dragon's Executive Producer Speaks On About Who Is The Most Important Targaryen

The Acolyte takes place during the High Republic Era, more than a century before the events of the Star Wars films. Leslye Headland, the show's creator, recently explained how this era influences the show's style, which will represent an intriguing quirk of the saga's general design philosophy.

"The further back in the Star Wars world you go, the better things get. The phrase 'a long time ago' becomes more futuristic. So, when we create this sort of environment, we're attempting to carry [Star Wars creator] George [Lucas'] philosophy that the deeper you go back, the more exciting, fresh, sleek, and intriguing things appear "She stated.

Headland has highlighted how the Star Wars film franchise's continuity affected The Acolyte's story, citing The Phantom Menace as a narrative jumping-off point for the program. According to the showrunner, the Disney+ series will fill in the gaps in the saga's chronology leading up to that point. "My question when watching The Phantom Menace was always like, 'Well, how did things get to this point?" she said. "How did we get to a point where a Sith Lord can infiltrate the Senate and none of the Jedi pick up on it? Like, what went wrong? What are the scenarios that led us to this moment?'" Because of Headland's notoriety as a Star Wars superfan, Lucasfilm President Kathleen has also stated that The Acolyte would draw from the Expanded Universe. "What's wonderful about Leslye is she knows it all. I mean, she's read a gazillion books inside the EU," Kennedy said. "There are little bits and pieces that she's drawing from that no one has explored yet in onscreen storytelling." Much of the existing Star Wars EU material was wiped from the franchise's official canon after Lucasfilm was acquired by Disney in 2012, however, some characters, concepts, and worlds have been reinstated since then.
