Elvis Presley's Iconic Dance Moves Are Put Front And Centre In Elvis Movie Trailer

Austin Butler, who plays Elvis Presley, is seen in a new clip from the planned 2022 Elvis biopic demonstrating Presley's legendary dance skills that had throngs of ladies screaming.

Luhrmann, Sam Bromell, Craig Pearce, and Jeremy Doner wrote the script, while Luhrmann and Doner wrote the story. Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla Presley, Helen Thompson as Presley's mother, and Richard Roxburgh as Presley's father join Butler in the starring role. Elvis will focus on Presley's connection with his manager Colonel Tom Parker, played by Tom Hanks in the film, in addition to charting his life and career.

Butler's movements as the magnetic rock-n-roll sensation are revealed in an exciting new trailer provided by Warner Bros. Pictures. Butler plays Presley in the two-minute clip, dressed in an enormous pink and black suit with his black hair slicked back in his typical way. He shows off his dance talents to a shouting mob of astonished but admiring women while strumming his guitar to the tune "Hayride."

Luhrmann's unique flare for dramatic and fantastic musical storytelling is on display in this latest Elvis teaser. This is something that Luhrmann has demonstrated in his past films, like Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet, The Great Gatsby, and Strictly Ballroom, his first smash. The energy and glossy exuberance of rock-n-roll culture in the 1950s, as well as the revolutionary trajectory of Presley's career and popularity, are brilliantly captured by Lurhmann's style. Similarly, the director's track record of directing musicals or films that prominently reference and include music and pop culture demonstrates that he is well-suited to helming a narrative like Elvis.

The film and its development have been a long time in the making, with the first announcements for the project dating back to 2014. As Elvis' release date approaches following a postponement due to COVID-19, speculation continues to swirl about how the film will depict the adored Presley, as well as if it will live up to the popularity of earlier musical biopics like Rocket Man and Bohemian Rhaposody. Elvis will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022 before hitting theaters on June 24, 2022, bringing Presley's iconic movements to a whole new generation.
