Is Eleven To Blame For The Upside Down? Stranger Things' Star Gives A Conclusive Response

Millie Bobby Brown, who plays Eleven in the Netflix series Stranger Things, provides a firm response on whether Eleven created the Upside Down

Several big revelations were made in the first seven episodes of the new Stranger Things season, including how Hopper escaped and was later taken by the Russians, as well as the actual nature of the much publicized Creel home. The flashbacks in episode 7 saw Eleven confronting Jamie Campbell Bower's Henry Creel in the Hawkins lab after he slaughtered the other children in his quest to assassinate those associated with Dr. Brenner's studies. Eleven would narrowly overcome Henry and send him to the Upside Down, so opening the first portal into the terrible dimension and setting in motion the events of the series and season. Millie Bobby Brown discussed the Stranger Things season 4 surprise that Eleven opened the initial doorway to the Upside Down in a recent interview with Variety for the TV series. Brown gave a firm answer to the argument when questioned if she was responsible for establishing the parallel realm, claiming that Eleven did not construct the Upside Down and that her answer came from the Duffer Brothers themselves. Take a look at what Brown stated below:

"[The Duffer Brothers] did tell me. She does. She opens the rift. This is too big of a debate for me to answer. I’m so worried. I think — no, no, no. I think that the alternate universe was always there. That is always going to be under Hawkins. I just think she has access to it. I don’t think that she created the Upside Down. No, I think that it was always there, I think she just created a gate to it which no one could before."

Since the premiere of Stranger Things season 4, many fans have disputed whether Eleven created the Upside Down or just opened a portal to there in her wrath while battling Henry. Given the Russians' understanding of the Upside Down previous to their meetings with Eleven and having done their own experiments to reach it, Brown's confirmation fits with the latter explanation, which already held the majority opinion. Furthermore, the fact that the Upside Down version of Hawkins is locked in 1983 confirms that she simply made a duplicate of the fictional town in the realm. The Stranger Things season 4, part 1 finale revealed that Eleven was behind Henry's metamorphosis into the demonic Vecna, aside from the proof that Eleven opened the rift. With the promos for Stranger Things season 4 part 2 hinting at a massive fight in the Upside Down and Eleven finally reclaiming her abilities, excitement for the feature-length final episodes, which premiere on July 1, is strong. Stranger Things season 4's first seven episodes are now available to view on Netflix.
