McDonald's Wakanda Forever Promotion Upgrades The Happy Meal To The Black Panther
McDonald's has released a special Happy Meal design and promotion in advance of the theatrical release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
McDonald's revealed its Happy Meal design inspired by Black Panther 2 on its official Twitter page, mirroring the titular character's famous suit. On November 1, the company confirmed its Happy Meal promotion via its website.
Each Wakanda-themed Happy Meal includes one of ten superhero toys based on characters from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, such as Shuri, Okoye, Namor, and Ironheart. The promotion will be available at participating McDonald's locations across the United States for a limited time.
Jennifer Healan, McDonald's Vice President of U.S. Marketing, Brand Content, and Engagement stated that the original Black Panther film set a new standard for diversity on the big screen and that the fast food chain is excited to launch this new promotion to help franchise fans celebrate their inner hero.
According to McDonald's, the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Happy Meal promotion is yet another effort to increase minority representation. On Oct. 26, the film's stars and other celebrities gathered in Hollywood for the red carpet premiere of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It is the sequel to the 2018 film Black Panther, which starred the late Chadwick Boseman as the titular character and T'Challa.
Boseman died of colon cancer in August 2020, at the age of 43. The sequel to Black Panther was supposed to focus on T'Challa's post-Endgame struggles but plans changed after his death, and Marvel chose not to recast the character out of respect for him. The plot of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever revolves around Wakanda's grief over T'Challa's death and their efforts to keep invading forces out of the fictional East African nation. Ryan Coogler, who also directed the original film, directed and co-wrote Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The film's producers are Marvel president Kevin Feige and vice president Nate Moore, and it will be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
