Obi-Wan Kenobi's Young Leia Actress Receives Praise From Hayden Christensen
Hayden Christensen compares Vivien Lyra Blair to Carrie Fisher and Natalie Portman while praising her portrayal of young Leia in Obi-Wan Kenobi
Hayden Christensen, who plays Obi-Wan Kenobi, is quite complimentary of Vivien Lyra Blair's portrayal of the young Princess Leia. The latest Star Wars television series concentrates on Obi-Wan's attempt to save a young Leia after the Third Sister kidnaps her. As a result, once his connection with Luke had already been established, the limited series was able to explore Obi-Wan's bond with Leia. Obi-Wan and Leia developed a unique kinship throughout their trip together, giving important elements of A Additional Hope new significance.
Blair was the appropriate decision for Lucasfilm, even if having a young actor play such a significant part in a program might be problematic (particularly when playing a famous figure like Leia). Her young Leia was a scene-stealer from the first Obi-Wan Kenobi episode on, exhibiting many of the personality qualities fans love to see in Carrie Fisher's performances. Obi-Wan Kenobi arguably wouldn't have worked as effectively without Blair, despite Ewan McGregor's committed performance as the title Jedi. The child caught the attention of at least one Star Wars veteran, who had high respect for her abilities.
Christensen talked about his opinions of Blair's performance in an interview with E! News. He praised the actress highly, remarking that he noticed "those small flashes of Padme" in her portrayal. See Christensen's remarks in the section below:
"I was just thrilled at seeing young Leia in this story and how she's represented. I think they really imbued the character with all the qualities that make that character great. And young Vivien has done such a great job of bringing her to life."
Connecting Leia to Padme's legacy is one method Obi-Wan Kenobi bridges the gap between the prequel and original trilogies. Obi-Wan mentions several times in the program how much Leia reminds him of her mother. Obviously, that was never explored in the movies, but it was wonderful that Obi-Wan Kenobi spent time on this thread. Because Obi-Wan Kenobi mentions Obi-anguish Wan's over Padme and Leia's resemblance to the previous senator, it's fortunate that Blair was able to channel aspects of Portman in her portrayal. Leia is being raised by the Organas on Alderaan, although it should be in her nature to resemble her biological mother's characteristics.
Blair, by all accounts, pulled off this difficult balancing act and did a wonderful job playing Leia at this stage in her life. It'll be fascinating to see if Blair reprises her role as young Leia. Even if Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 were to materialize, it would almost certainly have to follow a different plot in order to prevent repetition. Aside from that, no other future Star Wars program appears to be a good fit for Blair's Leia. Given the location of Andor in the chronology, she may be too young to play Leia in the Rogue One prequel. Other series, like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, are set when Leia is an adult. Because Obi-Wan Kenobi is advertised as a limited series, Blair's appearance may be her last one, but she surely made her stamp on the renowned brand.
