Sean Penn's Thriller Black Flies Will Include Mike Tyson

With Sean Penn and Tye Sheridan, legendary boxing champion "Iron" Mike Tyson has been cast in the forthcoming drama-thriller Black Flies.

Mike Tyson, the legendary former heavyweight boxing champion, will star in the forthcoming drama thriller Black Flies. Tyson will join a cast that already features two-time Academy Award winner Sean Penn, Ready Player One's Tye Sheridan, and Katherine Waterston from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The film, directed by Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire, is based on the best-selling Shannon Burke novel of the same name, which was inspired by the author's experiences as a paramedic in New York City's high-wire world in the 1990s. Ryan King, whose previous features include The Tutor starring Garrett Hedlund, is adapting Black Flies for the big screen.

According to THR, Tyson's part in Black Flies is categorized as a lead. He's said to be the commanding officer among the male paramedics, who are played by Sheridan and Penn. Their decisions lead them in different ways, with the rookie's desire to serve others tested to the limit.

Tyson is largely considered as one of the best heavyweight fighters of all time, but he has also made a name for himself outside of the ring. The former boxer acquired a remarkable cinematic résumé in recent years, beginning with cameos as himself in films such as Rocky Balboa and the blockbuster comedy The Hangover. Perhaps the most noteworthy entrance is as the adversary in Ip Man 3, the international popular martial arts franchise, with martial arts legend Donnie Yen. Tyson has since acted in a number of additional action flicks. Tyson's entertainment career will undoubtedly benefit from his appearance in a high-profile film like Black Flies.
