Shazam! Director Reacts To DCEU Film's Praise From Sam Raimi
David F. Sandberg, the director of Shazam!, responds to Sam Raimi's compliments for his DC Extended Universe film, saying that it has "made his day."
With Asher Angel as Billy, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy, Mark Strong as Sivana, and Djimon Housnou as the wizard Shazam, Zachary Levi lead the cast of Shazam! After nearly two decades in development hell, the picture opened to mostly good reviews from reviewers and moviegoers, with acclaim for Sandberg's direction, the lighter tone in comparison to previous DCEU efforts, and the performances from the cast. As the countdown to the release of Shazam! grows, One renowned director has expressed their admiration for the original film Fury of the Gods.
Following the film's release, one fan came to Twitter to upload a video of filmmaker Sam Raimi of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness praising Shazam! In reaction, director David F. Sandberg expressed his delight at Raimi's compliments for the DCEU film, saying that seeing the footage "made my day." Take a look at the following interaction:
Raimi and Sandberg, interestingly, have followed a similar path in Hollywood, with the former's Evil Dead trilogy and the latter's Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation establishing their reputations in the horror genre. The two would make their way into the superhero arena thanks to their developing success, with Raimi helping mainstream the genre with the Tobey Maguire-led Spider-Man trilogy and Sandberg receiving excellent reviews for his debut with Shazam! Sandberg's reply to Raimi's admiration for the picture will undoubtedly be a touching link between the DCEU and Marvel Cinematic Universe producers.
Despite being one of the franchise's lower-grossing pictures, Shazam! followed the DCEU's significant pattern of receiving more favourable critical reviews after Zack Snyder's prior films flopped. The film followed the first Wonder Woman, which received great reviews, and Aquaman, which received mixed-to-positive reviews and broke the DCEU's record for highest-grossing picture with a total of over $1.1 billion. The wait for the reunion of Levi and Sandberg is almost over, as Shazam! Fury of the Gods has been pushed back to December 21.
