Sonic The Hedgehog 2006 Is Back On Xbox (But Not For Everyone)

Sega has suddenly relisted their 2006 Sonic the Hedgehog platform game on the Xbox 360 Store, making it available solely on its original platform

Despite its terrible response, Sonic '06 has left an intriguing legacy throughout the years. Several popular "let's plays" and video game walkthroughs have been made about the game. Sega has embraced the game's notoriety by making Sonic '06 the butt of jokes on the official Sonic Twitter. In addition, the game featured characters who have subsequently appeared in other games, such as Sonic's friend/rival Silver the Hedgehog. Most significantly, some attribute the Sonic production team's decision to change the entire direction of the franchise's games to the negative reaction to 2006's Sonic the Hedgehog.

Sega has relisted the 2006 Sonic the Hedgehog on the Xbox Store for no apparent reason. Sonic '06, however, will not be accessible on the Xbox X/S, unlike Sonic's previous games. According to Xbox Advisor, the platform game has inexplicably returned to the Xbox 360 marketplace, allowing it to be played solely on its original platform. Sonic the Hedgehog joins other games from the era, such as Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Unleashed from 2008. According to Xbox Advisor, Sega may be gradually reintroducing a back library of titles, especially since the franchise's vintage collection Sonic Origins is set to release next month. Sega has not officially commented on its explanation for relisting Sonic '06, but more information should be forthcoming shortly.

Despite the problems with Sonic '06, there are still a lot of Sonic enthusiasts out there, and some of them may even like the game's poor physics and gameplay. In reality, some of these enthusiasts have taken the effort to create a recreation of the notoriously glitchy game, offering samples for other players to test over the previous few years. Past Sonic games may possibly be making a comeback as a result of the recent success of the Sonic live-action movie, which have reintroduced alienated fans to the brand.

While the game's mechanics and overall playability are unlikely to have altered, individuals seeking to recreate the notoriously bad Sonic The Hedgehog experience may now find the old visuals and flaws amusing rather than aggravating. As a result, it's worth a look, even if just for the memories.
