Superman Played By Henry Cavill Is Said To Be Returning For A Sequel Film

According to industry insider Devin Faraci, Man of Steel star Henry Cavill has agreed to reprise his role as Superman in a new film.

According to a recent claim, Henry Cavill's Superman will return to the DC Extended Universe with his own sequel film. During a recent episode of the Marvelvision podcast, industry source Devin Faraci said that Cavill will not only reprise his role as Superman in Black Adam but will also star in a standalone Superman picture next.

"[T]he reason Henry Cavill is back as Superman in Black Adam is that [Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson wanted it," Faraci explained. "He went full-court press on Warner Bros. and forced them to go to Henry Cavill, and they had to sign a new agreement with Henry Cavill, including a promise to make a new Superman film. And that was all because The Rock demanded it."

Faraci's claims on Johnson's role in Cavill's claimed return track with Johnson's past views about the DCEU's incumbent Superman. Cavill was recently referred to be "the Superman of our age" by the Black Adam actor, who lauded his performance as "phenomenal." Johnson went on to remark that he and Cavill were friends and that every time they saw each other, he thinks to himself, "This guy is Superman."

Despite his glowing admiration for Cavill, Johnson stopped short of confirming the British actor's involvement in Black Adam, so take this with a grain of salt for the time being. Cavill's DCEU future has sparked speculation in recent months, including reports that the Man of Steel star will attend at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 to promote new Superman projects.

Although Cavill did not appear at Warner Bros.' Comic-Con panel, Johnson kept fans' hopes alive by promising a big screen fight between Black Adam and Cavill's Last Son of Krypton. "They're quite a similar pound for pound," he added. "I suppose it all depends on who plays Superman. That's all I'll say. That's all I'll say about it." In the following interview, Johnson discussed the intricacies of a Black Adam/Superman combat, implying that Black Adam's ruthlessness may give him the upper hand against the Man of Steel. "There's a code [Superman] lives by and he honors," he said. "Black Adam has a unique code of ethics too. He will not hesitate -- and I like to have a little fun when I'm explaining this -- to rip somebody in half. Literally, he'll grab someone by the neck and by the thigh and then rip them up, tear them apart."
