The Release Date For Doctor Strange 2's Streaming Release Has Reportedly Been Revealed

The streaming release date for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has apparently been disclosed, as the picture continues to dominate the box office

Along with Cumberbatch and Olsen, the cast for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness includes Benedict Wong, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams from the MCU, as well as Xochitl Gomez as America, Patrick Stewart as a Professor X version, and Charlize Theron as Clea. The film, directed by Sam Raimi and written by Loki creator Michael Waldron, has gotten generally excellent reviews for Raimi's direction, Cumberbatch, Olsen, and Gomez's performances, and the mind-bending visual effects, however its erratic pace has drawn criticism. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has generally dominated the box office, despite a significant decline in its second weekend.

Pop Culture Leftovers reports that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will supposedly debut streaming in June, less than a month after movie initially hit theaters. The Twitter account relays the news with an image from the German edition of Disney+, indicating that the MCU sequel, along with a making-of featurette, will begin streaming on June 22. Other Disney+ regional accounts had not yet declared an official streaming date at the time of writing. The following is the purported reveal:

Not only have no other Disney+ accounts verified the stated date, but the original Instagram post from Disney+ Germany indicating that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will begin streaming in late June has been removed. Though it may appear surprising that a film of the magnitude of Doctor Strange 2 would begin streaming so soon, it is consistent with some of the House of Mouse's recent blockbuster releases making their way to streaming platforms, as both Death on the Nile and The King's Man began streaming just over a month after hitting theaters. In addition, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Eternals were released on Disney+ two months after their theatrical debuts.

Furthermore, given that both Lightyear and Thor: Love and Thunder are set to hit theaters in late June and early July, it's understandable that Disney would be confident in their box office dominance continuing in the absence of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness continuing a theatrical-exclusive run. The film's streaming date comes after the sequel earned $803 million at the global box office, overtaking the Robert Pattinson-led The Batman to become the highest-grossing picture of 2022 thus far. While fans wait for confirmation on the film's alleged release date, they can still see Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in theaters right now.
