Third Holmes Sibling Is Missing And Enola Holmes Director Explains Why

Harry Bradbeer, the director of Enola Holmes 2, explains why Sam Claflin did not reprise his role as Sherlock's older brother Mycroft in the upcoming sequel.

Director Harry Bradbeer explained why Sam Claflin was noticeably absent from Netflix's Enola Holmes 2. Bradbeer explained to Collider that Claflin's absence was simply a matter of scheduling. "Well, Sam's schedule became very clear, so Sam was not going to be there... We were disappointed that Sam couldn't be there "Bradbeer revealed himself.

In the 2020 Enola Holmes film, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire actor played Mycroft, Sherlock's older brother and founding member of the Diogenes Club. Despite Claflin's absence, Bradbeer stated that if another Enola Holmes film is made, he hopes to have the actor return. Without Mycroft, Enola Holmes 2 focuses on the relationship between Sherlock and Enola, as played by Henry Cavill and Millie Bobby Brown.

While Mycroft is conspicuously absent from Enola Holmes 2, he has his own brush with danger in Enola Holmes: Mycroft's Dangerous Game, a recently released graphic novel that bridges the two films. Mycroft is kidnapped in the book, and Enola must solve yet another mystery in order to save her irritable brother.

Enola Holmes is not the first adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes series. Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Doctor Strange, is best known for playing the timeless detective Sherlock in the BBC series Sherlock, alongside Martin Freeman as John Watson. In addition, in Guy Ritchie's two films, Robert Downey Jr. played a more rugged Sherlock, with Jude Law as his sidekick.

Cavill expressed his excitement about reprising Sherlock in Enola Holmes 2 and ensuring the franchise is headed in the right direction ahead of the film's release date. "It's critical not to lose sight of the tone of things in the potential excitement of franchises and universes," Cavill said. "I've seen franchises go places and then fade away, as well as other franchises emerge and become exciting. It's all about top-down decision-making and everything that comes with it. I'm just the hired help." In addition to Cavill and Brown, Helena Bonham Carter reprises her role as the family matriarch, Eudoria Holmes, and Adeel Akhtar returns to play Inspector Lestrade.
