Vader Complimented The Boy Meets World Star On His Wrestling Abilities

Will Friedle of Boy Meets World claims that the late Big Van Vader was pleased with his wrestling talents during their joint battle scene

Each presentation usually contains some sort of comic disaster that leads to a life lesson. One such event occurred during a season 2 episode of Boy Meets World when Cory seeks to create a name for himself in high school by joining the wrestling team. Cory, on the other hand, is persistently tormented and pressured into an unofficial rematch after defeating his opponent for a seat on the squad. Cory is informed prior to the battle by his opponent's father, played by Vader, that if he wins, he will have to fight him as well.

A tag team match begins, and Eric is accidentally positioned in the ring against Vader. As predicted, the big, professional wrestler quickly dispatches his youthful opponent before Mr. Feeny intervenes and ends the battle. The incident was one of the most memorable moments in the early seasons of Boy Meets World, and it had an influence on Friedle personally. Friedle recounts his encounter with Vader and claims the wrestling veteran genuinely complemented him on his efforts in a recent interview with ComingSoon. Read on to learn more about their talk.

"He gave me a wonderful compliment one day when we were rehearsing and he lifts me up, benches me twice, and then throws me over his shoulder. Afterward, he said, 'You know, you do that better than some of the pros I’ve worked with.' I think he was probably saying it tongue-in-cheek, but it was still such a wonderful compliment. Couldn’t have met a nicer guy."

The Wrestling Hall of Famer's comment should not be taken lightly, since Vader was a ring veteran with 33 years of experience. Vader grabs Friedle by the neck and hoists him horizontally above his head in the Boy Meets World scenario. He gives Friedle a brief military squeeze before parading him across the ring, drooping over his shoulder. Friedle does not get to do any offensive techniques, but Boy Meets World does demand him to aid in being lifted and remain stiff when hung, which needs considerable physical power and expertise.

Big Van Vader died in 2018 as a result of pneumonia and cardiac issues. The legend left an illustrious history, having won championships in several wrestling companies, including the WWE and WCW. Friedle never pursued a wrestling career, which was perhaps for the best given his size. However, the Boy Meets World actor can boast that he went toe-to-toe with one of the sport's biggest stars and walked away with Darth Vader's praise. That is still rather unique.
